Jean Elsen sale 106, lot 936

This specimen was lot 936 in Jean Elsen sale 106 (Brussels, September 2010), where it sold for 1,300 euro. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"ITALIE, TOSCANE, Ferdinand II de Médicis (1620-1670), AR piastre, 1645/1642, Florence. Droit : B. drapé et cuirassé à droite, une grand fraise au col. Revers : Saint Jean Baptiste debout de face, levant la main. Très Rare. Petits défauts du flan. Très Beau à Superbe." (Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Ferdinand II de Medicis, 1620-70, silver piastra of 1645, Florence mint. Obverse: draped and armored bust to right with ruffed collar; reverse: St. John the Baptist standing, hand raised. Very rare, small planchet defects, Very Fine to Extremely Fine.)

This type was struck 1635-49 and is quite expensive in the SCWC. The very similar Dav-4201 has the date on the obverse only.
