Tuscany 1676 piastra Dav-4209
The first specimen was lot 664 in Stack's Coin Galleries sale (New York, December 2009), where it sold for $603.75. The catalog description noted, "ITALIAN STATES. TUSCANY. Cosimo III Medici, 1670-1723. Piastre, 1676. Florence. Bust r. Rv. John the Baptist baptizes Jesus. Peripheral iridescence embellishes evenly struck legends and design elements. Choice Extremely Fine." The second specimen was lot 2846 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIA | Firenze. Cosimo III. 1670-1723 Piastra 1676. BB+. (grand duchy of Tuscany, Cosimo III, 1670-1723, piastra of 1676, choice very fine.)"
This type was struck 1675-79 and is quite expensive in the SCWC.
