This specimen was lot 1627 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 7,500 CHF (about US$9,104 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SWEDEN. Karl XIV. Johann, 1818-1844. 2 Dukaten 1837, Stockholm. Mit der Signatur CB (Christopher Borg, Münzmeister in Stockholm). Selten. Nur 1'989 Exemplare geprägt. Fast FDC. NGC MS63. (kingdom of Sweden, Charles XIV John, 1818-44, double ducat of 1837, Stockholm mint, with engraver's initials "CB". Rare. Only 1,989 pieces struck, About uncirculated.)"

Ducats of various types were issued in Sweden throughout the nineteenth century until 1868. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period. This type is listed for 1830, 1836-42 and is rare. It is accompanied by ducats (Fr-87) and quadruple ducats (Fr-85). Carl was originally a general in Napoleon's army who accepted the Swedish king's invitation to marry the king's daughter and become his heir. He ruled 1818-44 and his descendants reign over Sweden today.
