This type was struck at the Philadelphia mint for Cuba in 1943 only. There is also a brass five centavos from 1943 (KM 11.3a). Previous dates (1915-16, 1920 and 1938) and post-war dates (1946, 1951) were copper-nickel. Two dates were struck in the fifties using the portrait of hero José Marti (KM 26, KM 30). Castro-era issues (KM 33, 1963-88) are aluminum. None are rare altho they can be expensive in high grade.
Recorded mintage: 20,000,000.
