Germany 1876-J mark

from Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 6418

This specimen was lot 6418 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mark, 1876-J. NGC MS-64. Needle sharp strike with just a faint hint of toning, pleasing to the eye." This type was struck 1873-87 at nine mints; this specimen is a product of the Hamburg mint ("J"). In 1891, a modified eagle was introduced and this denomination was struck in that form until 1918 (see KM 14).

Recorded mintage: 1,109,000 (a better date).

Specification: 5.55 g, .900 fine silver, .160 troy oz ASW.
