Goldberg sale 75, lot 3965
Sweden 1832 ducat rev G75-3965.jpg

This specimen was lot 3965 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden. Ducat, 1832-CB. Carl XIV Johan. Head right. Reverse: Crowned mantled arms. Choice original example and Rare in this top grade. NGC graded MS-64." Ducats of various types were issued in Sweden throughout the nineteenth century until 1868. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period. This type is listed for 1830-34 and is rare. Carl was originally a general in Napoleon's army who accepted the Swedish king's invitation to marry the king's daughter and become his heir. He ruled 1818-44 and his descendants reign over Sweden today.

Recorded mintage: 2,082.

Specification: 3.49 g, .976 fine gold, .109 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-87; KM 628.
