This specimen was lot 44122 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "BULGARIA. Lev, 1925. Brussels Mint. NGC MS-65. A steel-toned Gem with softly lustrous surfaces." Bulgaria fought a protracted war against the Ottomans, culminating in liberation from the latter's rule in 1878. The new Bulgarian state was quite weak, however, and new conflicts drew it into the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913, along with Serbia and Greece, once again against the Ottomans in Turkey. This one-year type was struck for Bulgaria and is common. The next issue in 1941 was struck in iron.
