Sincona sale 64, lot 3659

This specimen was lot 3659 in Sincona sale 64 (Zurich, June 2020), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$564 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Uri | misc, Batzen 1811, Bern. FDC. (canton of Uri, batzen of 1811, Bern mint. Uncirculated.)"

This rare issue was accompanied by a rappen, half, two and four batzen, all from 1811. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 2.63 g.

Catalog reference: KM 42, D.T. 77, HMZ 2-994a.
