This specimen was lot 1234 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $7,637.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Escudos, ND (1680-99)-MxoL. Charles II (1665-1700). NGC AU-55. Jeweled cross on reverse. Full mintmark and assayers letters, well struck for type. Lustrous. From the David O'Harrow Collection. Ex: 1715 Plate Fleet." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type is listed for 1679-1701. Most specimens lack dates.
