The first specimen was lot 40771 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $10,575. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1912-EB. NGC AU-58. Alexander III Memorial Ruble Alexander III Memorial. Blue gray toning. NGC AU-58." The second specimen was lot 20681 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $13,225. The catalog description[2] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1912-EB. A Second Example of this Classic Rarity. Alexander III Memorial. PCGS MS-62+." In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798. This commemorative is rare.
Recorded mintage: 2,100 plus a few proofs.
