Great Britain 1845 half crown

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23067

This specimen was lot 23067 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $312. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1845. NGC AU-58. On the cusp of Mint State with a mixture gray and tan tone over highly lustrous surfaces." The type was struck for circulation 1839-50 and features the bust of the young queen Victoria. A slightly revised bust was used 1874-87. The bust strongly resembles the one used on the crown but the half crown was issued in much larger numbers.

Recorded mintage: 2,232,000 including a rare 1845/3 overdate.
