The first specimen was lot 20409 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it sold for $373.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneberg. Taler, 1663-HS. Georg Wilhelm (1648-65). Toned, VERY FINE." The second specimen was lot 22682 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneberg. Taler, 1663-HS. Georg Wilhelm (1648-65). PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Toned." This type depicting the wild man of the forest is recorded for 1654-64 and is among the common types of the period. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
