This Draped Bust cent is from a type struck in Philadelphia 1796-1807. Large numbers were made, especially compared to the earlier Flowing Hair and Liberty Cap cents, and circulated specimens are readily available. Varieties abound, all carefully documented by Sheldon number. The original poster of these images commented, "1803 1C Small Date, Sm Frac AU58BN PCGS # 36359 S-247, B-5, R.3. Bland XF45; tied for CC-6. Noyes XF40; tied for CC-7. Photo #20366. Equivalents. Proskey 4; Doughty 182; McGirk 4A; Ross 4; Newcomb 5; EAC 5; Encyclopedia 1754; Small Date. 'Mumps' variety, die chip at throat. Small Fraction. Short fraction bar. The obverse appears on S-246, S-247, S-248, and S-249. The reverse appears on S-247. Die State I. The mumps feature is prominent on this example. Faint clash marks are visible on each side, especially through BERT. Provenance.
