This Liberty Cap cent is from a type struck n Philadelphia 1793-96. Considerable numbers were made, especially compared to the earlier Flowing Hair cent, and circulated specimens are readily available tho not cheap. Varieties abound, all carefully documented by Sheldon number. Problem coins, such as the pitted example shown here, are the majority. The Draped Bust cent, introduced in 1796, had its weight reduced to 10.98 g.
