Sincona sale 6, lot 1429

This specimen was lot 1429 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 4200 CHF (about US$6,342 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Firenze Leopoldo II. di Lorena, 1824-1859. Francescone 1826. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Kabinettstück. Feine Tönung. FDC. (Italy, Florence, Leopold II of Lorraine, 1824-59, francescone of 1826. Very rare, especially in this condition. Fine old cabinet toning, uncirculated.)"

This type is listed for 1826 only. Leopold, a junior Hapsburg prince, ruled Tuscany until it was incorporated into the united kingdom of Italy in 1859-60.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 27.50 g, .917 fine silver, lettered edge; this specimen is 27,29 g.
