Künker Auction 441, lot 5085

This specimen was lot 5085 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$8,254 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH Christian V., 1670-1699. Speciedaler 1693, Kongsberg. Ausbeute von norwegischem Silber. Mit Randschrift: (Hammer und Schlägel gekreuzt) HÆC BOREAS CYMBRO FERT ORNAMENTA LABORUM. RR Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz. (kingdom of Norway, Christian V, 1670-99, speciedaler of 1693, Kongsberg mint, for the Norwegian mines. Edge lettering "HÆC BOREAS CYMBRO FERT ORNAMENTA LABORUM". Very rare, Fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1692-93 with seven different edge inscriptions. All are so rare as to be beyond the reach of the average collector. Henning Kryštof Meyer Sr. was mintmaster at Kongsberg 1687-1718.
