Norway 1694-HCM specie daler Dav-3661
This specimen was lot 5086 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$8,254 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH Christian V., 1670-1699. Speciedaler 1694, Kongsberg. Ausbeute von norwegischem Silber. Mit Randschrift: (Eisen und Schlägel gekreuzt) SAADAN NORDENS SKAT GUD GIEMTE TIL KONG CHRISTIAN DENDFEMTE. RR Feine Tönung, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz. Bei Müseler mit dieser Randschrift nicht verzeichnet. Sie lautet übersetzt: Schatz des Nordens, den der Gott vor Zeit des Königs Christian V. verborgen hatte. (kingdom of Norway, Christian V, 1670-99, speciedaler of 1694, Kongsberg mint, for the Norwegian mines. Edge lettering SAADAN NORDENS SKAT GUD GIEMTE TIL KONG CHRISTIAN DENDFEMTE. Very rare, fine toning, extremely fine. Not listed in Müseler with this edge inscription. It translates as: "Treasure of the North, which God had hidden before the time of King Christian V.")"
This type was struck 1693-94 with four different edge inscriptions. All are so rare as to be beyond the reach of the average collector. Henning Kryštof Meyer Sr. was mintmaster at Kongsberg 1687-1718.
