Westfriesland 1749 7 gulden Fr-299
This specimen was lot 54 in Schulman auction 388 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"1/2 Gouden rijder, WEST-FRIESLAND Het Gewest 1581 - 1795, 1749, Gold Type II. Ruiter naar rechts boven gewestelijk wapentje, mmt. haan na omschrift. Kz. generaliteitswapen tussen waarde 7 - GL- , jaartal boven de kroon. Kabelrand. Wij hebben sinds 1880 slechts tweemaal een exemplaar van dit jaar mogen verhandelen. Dit jaartal ontbreekt in de NNC. RRRR. Jaartal van de allerhoogste zeldzaamheid Licht opgewreven. Zeer fraai +. (half golden rider, province of Westfriesland, gold type II. Obverse: mounted knight charges right, over the crowned provincial arms; reverse: crowned arms of the Generality divides the value, reeded edge. Extremely rare date, only the second one we have offered since the founding of the firm in 1880. Lightly polished, very fine or better.)"
This expensive type is listed for 1749-51 and 1760-63. All the dates are priced the same except for the rare 1749. It was the second largest gold coin regularly issued in the United Provinces.
