This specimen was lot 41162 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $930. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. Livonia. Duchy of Courland and Semigallia. 3 Groszy, (15)98. Mitau Mint. Wilhelm Kettler. PCGS MS-63. A lovely and seldom encountered issue from the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia, offering bright luster and bold details. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." This type was struck 1598-1600. Wikipedia comments, "Wilhelm Kettler (1574-1640) was the Duke of Courland, a Baltic German region in today's Latvia. He ruled the western Courland portion of the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia, while his brother Friedrich ruled the eastern Semigallia portion."
