This specimen was lot 5987 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €440 (about US$612 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BALTIKUM, KURLAND, Friedrich Kettler, 1587-1642. 3-Gröscher 1597, Mitau. RR Fast vorzüglich. (Baltic States, Courland, Frederick Kettler, 1587-1642, three groscher of 1597, Mitau mint. Very rare, about extremely fine.)"
Friedrich Kettler (1569–1642) was the second Duke of Courland and Semigallia from 1587 until his death. The duchy of Courland was a Baltic German state formed out of the wreckage of the state of the Teutonic Order. It was a vassal of the grand duchy of Lithuania and led a semi-independent existence until it was annexed to Poland in 1726. The region is today part of Latvia.
