Poland (15)97-IF 3 groschen
This specimen was lot 73170 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 3 Groschen (Trojak), 1597-IF. Olkusz Mint. Sigismund III. NGC EF-45. Warm steel gray surfaces remain original, presumably after hundreds of years of well-kept storage in a coin cabinet. Only slight signs of friction are visible on the design peaks, and, when held directly under a light, ample brightness can be detected from several angles. On the whole a very well preserved, original example with exemplary eye appeal." Olkusz was in the south of Poland and was never part of the Empire or the domain of the Teutonic Order. In the third partition of 1795, the town fell to Austria.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
Catalog reference: cf. Kop-1055.
