Sincona sale 101, lot 2644

This specimen was lot 2644 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,864 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Königreich und Republik, Louis XV. 1715-1774. Louis d'or à la croix de Malte 1719 P, Dijon. Selten. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, gold louis of the Maltese cross of 1719, Dijon mint. Rare. NGC AU58.)"

Droulers[2] notes this type, called a louis d'or à la croix du Saint Esprit, was struck 1718-19 and replaced the louis d'or de Noailles, which was 12.23 grams.

Recorded mintage: limonite.

Specification: 9.79 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-25 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers, this specimen 9.74 g.
