Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74723

This specimen was lot 74723 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/2 Ecu de Navarre, 1719-D. Lyon Mint. Louis XV. PCGS AU-58. A VERY RARE mint for this type, and especially difficult in this condition closely bordering on Mint State. A lustrous and wholesome piece with only the barest hint of wear on the curls of the portrait. From the Richard August Collection." This issue of the Lyon mint is a better date of a scarce type, struck 1718-20 only. It is called the demi-écu de France et Navarre and had a face value of 3 livres at the time of issue.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date[2].

Specification: 12.23 g, 0.917 fine silver, 32 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
