Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 46712
SB825-46712r.jpg

This specimen was lot 46712 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mansfeld. Taler, 1563. Volrat V, Johann I and Karl I. NGC AU Details--Cleaned." The county of Mansfeld was a state between Anhalt and Saxony blessed with productive silver mines. It seems the various branches of the Mansfeld line all lived in Schloss Mansfeld but occupied different parts: Vorderort (outer castle), Mittelort (middle castle) and Hinterort (inner castle). The counts minted a plethora of thalers and an extensive series of minors. This type was struck 1560-64 and undated with various mintmarks.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM MB48, Dav-9536.
