Sincona sale 92, lot 43

This specimen was lot 43 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$762 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN Afsharid Dynasty, Nader Shah, as king, 1148-1160 AH (1735-1747). Rupi 1153 AH (1740/1741), Isfahan Mint. Gutes vorzüglich. Leicht gereinigt, About Uncirculated, Lightly cleaned. Purchased from M. Abgarians, Glendale, California, in 1986."

Nadir Shah was the power behind the throne in the last years of the Safavids. Finally, he tired of ruling thru puppets and seized the throne for himself in AH 1148. This type D rupi was struck at Isfahan AH 1151-1160 and at eleven other mints.
