Zwolle 1642 daalder Dav-4883
This specimen was lot 262 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €100 (about US$142 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ZWOLLE. Leeuwendaalder, 1642, Silver Type IIIa. Ridder achter stadswapen naar rechts .MO: ARG: CIVITA. - .ZWOL. AL: IMP. Kz. klimmende leeuw tussen jaartal ❀ DA: PACEM: DOMINE: IN: DIEBVS: NOST. Zeer fraai. (city of Zwolle, lion dollar of 1642, type IIIa. Obverse: standing knight faces right behind the city arms; reverse: lion rampant divides the date, rosette mintmark. Very fine.)"
Lion daalders were struck in most of the provinces that today make up the Netherlands along with a few half daalders. This type (lion without shield) is recorded in the SCWC for Zwolle for 1639-46 and is fairly common. Two other daalders, KM 46/Dav-4885 (date in legend, struck 1641-55) and KM 48/Dav-4884 (date behind lion, struck 1642, 1644) are noted for the year. Zwolle is a town in the province of Overijssel.
