Sincona sale 102, lot 5695

This specimen was lot 5695 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$490 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Zürich. Stadt und Kanton 20 Schilling (Halbgulden) 1779, Zürich. Seltener Jahrgang, Vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, twenty schilling or half gulden of 1779, Zürich mint. Rare date, Extremely Fine.)"

This type was issued intermittently 1774-80 and was worth half a gulden or a quarter thaler. In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 7.57 g, silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 7.32 g.
