Zurich (1460) plappart
This specimen was lot 3599 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$363 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Plappart o. J. (ca. 1460), Zürich. Sog. Krähenplappart. Wappen in einem Vierpass. Rv. Grosser einköpfiger Adler nach links. Fast sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Zurich, undated plappart, circa 1460, Zürich mint, the so-called "crow" plappart. Obverse: arms in a quadrilobe; reverse: large single headed eagle left. About very fine.)"
The plappart, or blafard in French, was originally a foreign coin but adopted in Switerland at the end of the 14th century. It was superseded by the batzen at the beginning of the 16th century. It was worth fourteen or fifteen pfennig.
