Sincona sale 98, lot 4599

This specimen was lot 4599 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 900 CHF (about US$1,306 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zug, Stadt und Kanton, 1/6 Assis 1756, Zug. Zugerwappen in deutschem Schild. Rv. Fünf Zeilen Schrift, Jahreszahl und Beizeichen. Selten. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Kunzmann, Auktion SINCONA 44, Zürich, Oktober 2017, aus Los 6000. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zug, one-sixth assis of 1756, Zug mint. Obverse: cantonal arms in German shield; reverse: five line inscription with date. Rare, About Very Fine.)"

The SCWC lists this type for 1747-52, 1756-57, 1761-67. Like many low denomination coins, it is common in low grade but rare in choice condition, no contemporaries thinking it worth hoarding. It was equal to the angster (1/600 thaler).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 0.2 g, billon, 12 mm diameter, this specimen 0.22 g.
