Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 1904

This specimen was lot 1904 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €240 (about US$312 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, WURTEMBERG, Wilhelm II (1891-1918), AV 10 Mark, 1900 F. Nettoyé. presque Superbe. (Germany, kingdom of Württemberg, William II, 1891-1918, gold ten mark of 1900. Cleaned, about Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1893-1913. Several German states issued gold five mark in 1877 but the denomination was abandoned in favor of a silver five mark, gold being restricted to ten and twenty mark pieces. This date is common.

Reported Mintage: 90,000.

Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold.
