Sincona sale 50, lot 1073

This specimen was lot 1073 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 12,000 CHF (about US$14,475 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Württemberg, Herzogtum. Ulrich, 1534-1550. Taler 1537. Mit österreichischem Gegenstempel auf der Rückseite: Doppeladler. * D : G • VL : DVX • WIRT : ET : TECK • CO : MO : BELL : Z Brustbild l. mit Hut, umgelegtem Mantel und einfacher Kette. Rv. * DA • GLORIAM • DEO • OMNIPOTENTI • Vierfeldiges Wappen, zu den Seiten 1 • 5 - 3 • 7. Sehr selten. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Württemberg, Ulrich I, 1534-50, thaler of 1537, with Austrian counterstamp on the reverse. Obverse: mantled and capped bust; reverse: quartered arms divide the date. Very rare, Minor flan defect, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

Davenport notes that five different thalers were issued in Wurttemberg in 1537. Ulrich actually ruled Wurttemberg 1498-1550 but was ousted by the Austrians 1519-34.
