Künker sale 335, lot 4570
Mompegard (Montbeliard) in 1648, NW of Basel

This specimen was lot 4570 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €320 (about US$419 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"WÜRTTEMBERG, WÜRTTEMBERG-MÖMPELGARD, HERZOGTUM. Leopold Eberhard, 1699-1723. 3 Kreuzer (Groschen) 1710. . Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +. (Germany, duchy of Wurttemberg-Montbeliard, Leopold Eberhard, 1699-1723, three kreuzer or groschen of 1710. Handsome patina, very fine or better.)"

The county of Montbeliard was an enclave in France ruled by various cadets of the dukes of Württemberg from 1408 to 1796. On the death of Leopold Eberhard in 1723, the county reverted to the duke himself. Three different three kreuzer were struck in 1710, of which this is probably the most common.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.29 g, silver, this specimen 1.49 g.

Catalog reference: KM 29, Ebner 71; Klein 69.
