Westfriesland 1597 rijksdaalder Dav-8865
This specimen was lot 502 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €400 (about US$514 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"WEST-FRIESLAND Het Gewest 1581 - 1795. Gehelmde rijksdaalder of prinsendaalder. 1597, Silver Type II. Borstbeeld van Willem de Zwijger met zwaard naar rechts + DEVS + FORTITVDO + ET + SPE - S + NOSTR - A + jaartal. Kz. gewestelijk wapen onder toernooihelm, mmt. ❀ na omschrift. Ondanks de gebruikelijke zwakke slag een uiterst net exemplaar met kleurrijk patina. Vrijwel prachtig. (province of Westfriesland, silver helmeted rixdollar or prince's dollar of 1597, type II. Obverse: bust of William the Silent right with sword; reverse: helmeted provincial arms, rosette mintmark at the end of the legend. Despite the usual weak strike an extremely neat example with colorful patina. Almost fine.)"
