This type was produced at four mints (Munich, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Hamburg) in 1950 in such numbers that no more were struck until 1966. The Munich mint mark was "D". The last issue for circulation was in 1995 and the type was retired in 2002 with the coming of the euro. The design was revised in 1972 to change the edge from reeded to plain.
Recorded mintage: 21,540,000 plus 78,000 proofs.
Specification: 3.5 g, copper-nickel, 20 mm diameter, plain edge.
