Steve Album sale 51, lot 3891

This specimen was lot 3891 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $114. The catalog description[1] noted, "VIETNAM: Socialist Republic, AR 100 dong, 1986, Natural Protection Series-Water Buffalo, a spectacular example, PCGS graded MS68, ex Howard A. Daniel III Collection." This denomination was also used for KM 18 (Vietnamese Junk), KM 20 (Peacock), KM 21 (Elephant), KM 22 (100 Years of Automobile), KM 23 (Winter Olympics Calgary 1988), KM 24 (Summer Olympics Seoul 1988) and KM 29 (World Cup Mexico 1986). The water buffalo also appeared on a copper-nickel ten đồng (KM 15). While the domesticated water buffalo toils all over Asia, its wild ancestor, Bubalus arnee, is endangered.
