from Steve Album sale 45, lot 2792

This specimen was lot 2792 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $114. The catalog description[1] noted, "VENICE: Republic, AE centesimo, 1849, Provisional coinage, a wonderful mint state example! PCGS graded MS64 BN, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This centesimo piece was struck during an insurrection against Austrian rule in 1848. Without foreign support, the rebellion collapsed. Venice would not be incorporated into a united Italy until 1866. The provisional government also issued gold 20 lire, silver five lire, 15 and 25 centesimi and bronze five and three centesimi coins.
