This specimen was lot 2589 in Goldberg sale 98 (Los Angeles, June 2017), where it sold for $1,058. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Venice. ¼ Zecchino, ND. Carlo Ruzzini, 1732-1735. Doge kneeling before St. Mark. Reverse: Christ standing within stars. Scarce denomination. NGC graded MS-65. WINGS." The republic of Venice invented the ducat in the late 1200's and issued them more or less continuously until the final collapse in 1797. This is a fairly common type. This doge also minted one half, one (Fr-1384), three and ten zecchini in gold.
