This specimen is lot 99 in Spink sale 9031 (London, November 2009). The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy, Venice, Alvise III Mocenigo (1722-32), Zecchino, undated, Doge kneeling before St. Mark, rev. Christ in mandorla, good very fine, some lustre." This type is among the more common types issued in Venice during the eighteenth century. This doge also minted one quarter, one half, four, ten, twenty-five, fifty and sixty zecchini in gold. The issue of Ludovico Marin (1789-97) ended the series as the Republic was occupied by Napoleon and traded by him to Austria in exchange for Milan.
