Sincona sale 83, lot 3132

This specimen was lot 3132 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,688 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "VENEDIG. Silvestro Valier, 1694-1700. 2 Ducato o. J. (1694), Venezia. Münzmeister F.T (Francesco Trevisan). Sehr selten. Gutes sehr schön. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler im Avers (republic of Venice, Silvestro Valier, 1694-1700, undated double silver ducat, Venice mint. Very rare, Good very fine, Minor flan flaw on obverse)." The silver ducat was struck 1694-1700 with various mintmasters; FT stood for mintmaster Francesco Trevisan. The double silver ducat is very rare; this is the first one we have found for this site. The SCWC lists it as a pattern.
