Steve Album sale 55, lot 3042

This specimen was lot 3042 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "VAUD: Canton, BI batzen, 1834, a fantastic example, PCGS graded MS66." This type was struck 1826-34 and is common. Most dates have the initials "BEL" on the plinth below the shield. After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.55 g, 0.160 fine silver, 25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-20.
