Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 78272
SB1125-78272r.jpg

This specimen was lot 78272 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Utrecht. 1/2 Lion Dollar (Daalder), 1654. Utrecht Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, VF Details. From the Richard August Collection." The leeuwendaalder and its half are famous in the numismatic world as being some of the worst struck coins in history. Most of the provinces and several of the cities struck them from the 1570's until the end of the seventeenth century. This subtype was struck 1644-50, 1654, 1658-67. Many dates are doubtless rarer than the catalog indicates.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.84 g, 0.750 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-35.1; Delm-879.
