Unterwalden 1732 20 kreuzer KM-14
This specimen was lot 3475 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$940 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Obwalden | misc, 20 Kreuzer 1732, Sarnen. Jahreszahl 1732 in der Umschrift. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Flaue Stellen. (half canton of Obwalden, twenty kreuzer of 1732, Sarnen mint. Date in legend. Rare in this condition, Very fine-extremely fine, Some weakly struck areas.)"
Unterwalden was one of the three original cantons forming the Swiss Confederation in 1291. Far from the main channels of commerce, her coinage is scanty and rare. Unterwalden was divided into the "half cantons" of Obwalden and Nidwalden. This type was struck 1726, 1729-34 with the date at the top. On KM 26, struck 1732 and 1736, the shield divides the date.
