United States 1908-S dime

Jean Elsen sale 164, lot 1760

This specimen was lot 1760 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,183 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ÉTATS-UNIS, AR 1 dime, 1908 S. Barber. Belle patine bleutée. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (United States dime of 1908, Barber type. Nice bluish patina, Extremely Fine - Uncirculated.)"

The Barber dime was issued in large numbers 1892-1916 from Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco and Denver. This San Francisco mint issue is fairly common in all grades. It obtains a slight premium over the Philadelphia issue.

Recorded mintage: 7,490,000.

Specification: 2.50 g, 0.900 fine silver, 17.9 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Charles Barber.
