This type was struck at Philadelphia, San Francisco and Carson City 1875-78 in limited numbers as it quickly proved to be a flop. This date is the only one that is common and comprises 85% of the mintage.

Recorded mintage: 1,155,000.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .144 troy oz ASW, plain edge, 22 mm diameter.
