This type, struck 1840-53 in reasonable quantities, is available in circulated condition. The rare dates are 1846, 1849-O and 1853-O no arrows). This date is common tho the repunched date obtains a slight premium. The weight was reduced in 1853, along with the other silver coinage, and arrows added 1853-55 to note the change.
Recorded mintage: 1,564,000.
Specification: 1.34 g, 0.900 fine silver, .038 troy oz ASW, 15.5 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Christian Gobrecht.
