Ulm SB517-72302r.jpg
Ulm in 1789

This specimen was lot 72302 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Santa Ana, CA, May 2017), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Ulm. Thaler, 1547. NGC VF-30. Toned." This free city in Swabia issued a few thalers in the mid-sixteenth century, all rare. This one is known for 1546-48 and is the only one of the sixteenth century. We have filed Ulm under Wurttemberg because the town was annexed first to Bavaria in 1803, then to Wurttemberg in 1810 as part of Napoleon's mediatization. Neu-Ulm, south of the Danube, remains in Bavaria.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-9926.
