Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 57407
SB124-57407 rev.jpg

This specimen was lot 57407 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Fiorino, 1858. Florence Mint. Leopoldo II. PCGS MS-66." This type is listed for 1843-48 and 1856-58. These obscure little Italian states coins don't catalog for much but are very difficult to find. This specimen brought less than the catalog value. The fiorino, originally a gold coin equal to a ducat, was in the nineteenth century one quarter of a francescone, the Tuscan equivalent of a piastra.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.87 g, .916 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-C72a; Pag-139; MIR-453/7.
