This specimen was lot 42587 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $1,220. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Tuscany. Piastre, 1590. Florence Mint. Ferdinand I. NGC EF-45. Overall decent surfaces with minor handling and a cud just above 3 o'clock on obverse. From the Heisner Collection from Down Under." After the Florentine republic collapsed, it was reconstituted as the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, ruled by the Medicis until 1723. This piastra was struck 1589-1601, 1604 and 1608-09. The issues of the seventeenth century are catalogued as Dav-4185.
