Sincona sale 46, lot 554

This specimen was lot 554 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$540 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY, Florence, Ferdinando II. 1621-1670. Doppia o. J. Fast sehr schön. Flaue Stellen. (grand duchy of Tuscany, Ferdinand II, 1621-70, undated doppia. About very fine, Some weakly struck areas.)"

The gold coins of this ruler (Fr-315 thru Fr-321) are generally rare, reflecting the increased impoverishment of the Tuscan state. This one is perhaps the most available.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.90 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.75 g.

Catalog reference: MIR 282. Fr-316.
