Stephen Album sale 37, lot 707
SA37-707r.jpg

This specimen was lot 707 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $357. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Abdul Hamid II, 1876-1909, AV 12½ kurush deluxe, Kostantiniye, AH1293 year 25, key date, with a mintage of just 720 that also includes year 26 (year 25 is rarer than year 26, according to Uslu, Beyazit & Kara), miniscule evidence on the edge that this piece was once mounted, choice EF, RRR, ex Ahmed Sultan Collection." This monnaie de luxe is the same weight as the regular 12½ kurush (itself a rare coin) but has a much larger module and a more elaborate design. Altho far fewer were made, they are priced the same as the regular issue, suggesting that they were extensively saved.

Recorded mintage: 120.

Specification: 0.90 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 0.87 g.

Catalog reference: KM-746, Fr-151 (formerly Fr-49).
